A North American conifer, the tree of life, traditionally used in homoeopathy for warts, skin outgrowths and dry hair with dandruff.
Thuja occidentalis, the arbor vitae or northern white cedar, is an evergreen conifer of the cypress family native to eastern Canada and the north-eastern United States. It has flat, fan-like sprays of scaly leaves, reddish brown bark and small cones, and is widely planted as a hedge. Its Latin name means tree of life.
Hahnemann introduced it, and it remains one of homoeopathy's best-known skin remedies. Homoeopaths traditionally turn to it for warts and wart-like outgrowths on the skin, and for greasy skin. It is also associated with dry hair that falls out, white scaly dandruff, and complaints that are worse in damp weather.
