in 1 remedy
A climbing passion flower from the American south, traditionally used in homoeopathy for sleeplessness, restlessness and nervous tension.
Passiflora incarnata, the purple passion flower or maypop, is a fast-growing climbing vine of the passion flower family, native to the south-eastern United States. Its intricate flowers have pale petals and a crown of wavy purple and white threads, followed by egg-sized fruits that ripen yellow.
Classic texts describe it as having a quieting effect on the nervous system. Homoeopaths traditionally turn to it for sleeplessness, especially in the worried, the overworked, infants and the elderly, and for restlessness, nervous tension and spasmodic night coughs. It is one of the few remedies the old texts preferred in mother tincture form.
