Oil from the liver of the cod

in 1 remedy

Cod liver oil, the old family tonic, traditionally used in homoeopathy for thin, poorly nourished children, a dry tickling cough and stiff, aching joints.

Oleum jecoris aselli is cod liver oil, pressed from the livers of the Atlantic cod. For generations it was spooned out to children as a tonic, and it is rich in vitamins A and D and in omega-3 fats.

In homoeopathy it is traditionally regarded as a nourishing remedy and associated with the liver and pancreas. Homoeopaths turn to it for thin, poorly nourished children who are restless and hot at night, for a dry, hacking, tickling cough that is worse at night, and for stiff, aching joints, especially the knees, elbows and lower back. Burning palms and chilliness towards evening are also part of its picture.
