Macrotin (black cohosh resin)
Resin extracted from the root of black cohosh
in 1 remedy
The resin of black cohosh root, traditionally used in homoeopathy for aching muscles, lumbago and restless weakness, especially around the monthly cycle.
Macrotinum, or macrotin, is the resin concentrate prepared from the root of black cohosh, Actaea racemosa, a tall woodland plant of eastern North America. Black cohosh itself is a well-known homoeopathic remedy under the name Cimicifuga, and macrotin was first made by the American Eclectic physicians of the nineteenth century.
Its proving brought out a picture close to that of the parent plant: aching, weak muscles, lumbago and rheumatic aching, great restlessness eased by moving about in spite of the weakness, and a melancholy, irritable mood. A special feature is that headaches and backache ease once the monthly flow begins.
