Apocynum Cannabinum
Hemp dogbane
Fresh root and plant of the hemp dogbane
in 1 remedy
A North American dogbane, traditionally used in homoeopathy when fluid collects in the body, with puffiness, scanty urine and great thirst.
Apocynum cannabinum is a perennial herb of North America, known as dogbane and, in old books, as Indian hemp, a name that refers to Native American use of its fibre and has nothing to do with cannabis. All parts contain strong plant toxins; homoeopathy uses it only in specially prepared form.
In homoeopathy it is traditionally associated with fluid retention: swelling of the abdomen and limbs, scanty urine and great thirst, though drinks may upset the stomach. Homoeopaths also mention it for a long-lasting stuffy nose that blocks up easily, with frequent sneezing.
