Alfalfa

Medicago sativa

Fresh alfalfa plant

in 1 remedy

Alfalfa, the nourishing fodder plant, is used in homoeopathy as a tonic, traditionally linked with poor appetite, weak digestion, tiredness and low weight.

Medicago sativa is alfalfa, also called lucerne, a deep-rooted perennial of the pea family with clusters of small purple flowers. Native to western Asia, it is one of the world's most important fodder crops and is rich in protein, vitamins and minerals.

In homoeopathy, Alfalfa is valued as a tonic. The classic materia medica describes it as toning up the appetite and digestion, with better mental and physical vigour and a gain in weight. It is traditionally used in states of poor nourishment and weakness, nervous indigestion, sleeplessness and low spirits, and in nursing mothers with a poor supply of milk.
